AQUILEIA UND ROMAN BASILICA

Aquileia was founded in 181 BC to encourage the expansion of Roman power and become an important commercial an military centre. It was destroyed by Attila the king of Huns in the year 452 AD. You can make an interesting visit to the roman neocropoli and the excavation area, where you can see the columns of the forum, marble cornice and a patrician house. The Torre di Poppo is from the 11th century and is beside the Basilica with important frescoes in the crypt.
In the archaeological Museum  you can see numerous examples of Roman art.
